Marc Blanchard is one of the most respected virus experts worldwide.

1985 – Began career with GOUPIL, France. His responsibilities included creating patches for Firmwares and BIOS to ensure compatibility between operating systems FLEX/UNIFLEX, CP/M and DOS and microprocessors Z80, 6809 and 8088

1986 – Marc discovered the TELECOM virus. He begins extensive research into the addition of foreign codes to one or several native codes, and wrote a special antidote for it.

1989 – Digital Research Ltd picks up on Marc’s work. Marc joins them as Operating System Doctor in charge with researching the software management solution for speeding up access to data stored on the hard disk.

During this time he also discovered Bulletin Board System technology which enabled him to access the world of FIDONET and the Internet to continue his researches about malicious codes.

When Digital Technologies was bought out by Novell, Marc qualified as an ECNE (Enterprise Certified Novell Engineer) on Netware versions 2.x, 3.x and 4.x.

Marc continued his research on mobile codes, sharing technical information with Virus Doctors and antivirus publishers via BBS and the Internet.

His professional career as an IT threat analyst began in 1986, when he created his own technology against malicious programs.

In 1991, Marc headed the computer virus research group in Central Point Software. Later he headed the European research division in the company.

In 1996, Mr. Blanchard joined Trend Micro, where he spearheaded the creation of a French Computer Virus Research Centre. Later, he went on to become Head of Virus Research for Europe. Marc has developed many antidotes for complex technologies, notably for the first ACCESS Viruses, CLASS viruses, the VBS_KAKWORM signature and spam via the VBS_LOVELETTER script and W97M_MELISSA, etc.

At the same time, Marc continued an intensive educational career, helping train and certify a generation of anti-virus specialists. Marc has published a series of articles and researches many of which are used for training virus analysts today.

In 2004, Marc joined Kaspersky Labs to continue his scientists epidemiological researches and continue to organize some public conferences on malwares technologies. Marc continues to develop lot of specific dedicated cleaner tools for his customers, including some new techniques of cleaning.

His current reseaches actually are focussed on zombies computers, the Storm Worm and Storm Botnet techniques.
